MUSANER (Starts at 9:00pm)
A uniquely evocative musical project directed by composer & pianist Ara Sarkissian. The band's music includes original compositions as well as arrangements of folk music from Armenia, the Caucasus, and the Balkans. Drawing on influences ranging from American jazz to European post-modernist composers, Sarkissian's work deftly explores exciting new rhythmic and harmonic territory while remaining true to its original folk roots.

David Bond, Ethnomusicologist and Musician, has performed with a variety of master musicians from several countries and cultures during the past 30 years. His focus in The Struti Afro-Indian Ensemble is on developing melodies and improvisations on the Rhaita and Clarinets, within the tradition of the music of the world.

Jerry Leake is a member of the Agbekor Drum and Dance Society. He is featured on dozens of CDs and has released several CDs of his own music. On tabla, he has accompanied Ali Akbar Khan, Steve Gorn, Sharafat Ali Khan, Kumkum Sanyal, Chitravena Ravikiran, Peter Row, Purnima Sen, Shyamdas, and kathak dancer Gretchen Hayden. He has toured with Persian masters, Shahram and Hafez Nazeri wityh features on CNN Live.

Garrison Fewell
Renowned for his mature, melodic sound and elegant, lyrical style of writing, guitarist Garrison Fewell has established himself as a distinctive voice throughout his 30-year career. Critics have called him "one of today's most personal guitar players" (Boston Phoenix), "an assured stylist with a strong sense of tradition" (The New Yorker), "a player of virtuosity and swinging intensity" (UPI), and "refined, passionate, and inspiring" (Guitar Player).

An internationally respected jazz educator, Fewell has been a Professor at Boston's Berklee College of Music since 1977 and has given clinics at more than 40 European conservatories, authored three jazz textbooks, his latest Jazz Improvisation for Guitar - A Melodic Approach is on Berklee Press, and writes lessons for Guitar Player, Guitar Club, Chitarre and Axe magazines.

Charlie Kohlhase
Alto, tenor and baritone saxophonist Charlie Kohlhase has been a mainstay of Boston's jazz scene for over twenty years. Whether leading his two newest bands, performing in a dozen others or writing over 50 compositions, his music spans a broad range of styles with an emphasis on the contemporary and the improvised.

Charlie also teaches at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts and offers private lessons. He has also been active in jazz radio for many years and currently hosts Research and Development," a program devoted to modern jazz heard on WMBR, 88.1FM in Cambridge, Massachusetts and on the web.

Jean-marie Corrois - Kaya CD Release Party - (starts 9pm)

Rhythm - everything in this universe is about rhythm - from the microcosm to the macrocosm everything moves on its own path.

For French born musician, Jean-marie Corrois, drumming has been a true love story. Inherently attracted as a child by a wide range of music, his current focus is more organic - a blending of Jazz, Latin, African, Brazilian and Indian rhythms. Specific grooves and their influences in the history of music have brought hope, joy and courage to humanity despite centuries of human struggles.

When Jean-marie performs, he is sharing his love for diversity, blending the cultural colors of original music with his audience. More than 20 years of performance and teaching in Europe, and now five years in the United States, he has had the opportunity to connect with a wide spectrum of world musicians.
