Ritmo Masacote is a 13-piece Salsa/Timba/Latin Jazz Orchestra Powerhouse comprised of some of Berklees most talented students/alums and NY & Bostons finest musicians. This young, charismatic cast produces commanding presentations full of life, spirit, and energy. The orchestra was created with the purpose to bridge the growing divide between the music and dance genres and inspire people to build communities and understanding through this cultural phenomenon.

Ritmo Masacote was founded out of Boston, MA in 2006 by Composer/Pianist Joel Massicot, also known as Masacote. Joel earned the alias Masacote in 1998 as an introduction into his piano solos while playing in Washington, DC. Masacote, Cuban slang, specifically refers to the feeling & rhythm created by combining the basic percussive instruments in Salsa/Mambo (the congas, guiro, timbales, clave, and bongo). More generally, this term refers to the design of merging various elements.

With this design in mind, Joel set about creating an ensemble that would serve to merge various components of music and dance, shaping the perception of Latin Music Today. Often coupled on stage with the company's dancers, Masacote Dance Company, an internationally renowned dance troupe known for its breathtaking performances and visually stunning choreographies, the ensemble is making an impact in cultivating an international appreciation and demand for danceable and captivating band performances.

Ritmo Masacotes reach extends internationally as far as Australia, China, Japan, Singapore, Turkey, Germany, Lithuania, Colombia, Brazil, and across North America, among others. The ensembles music can be found on motion pictures, instructional DVDs, and can be heard on major radio stations and satellite radio both nationally and internationally. Everyone can relate to the orchestras unique compositions and arrangements with focused directions in Timba, Salsa, and Latin jazz grounded in Cuban roots.

With two critically acclaimed Latin Jazz albums to its credit, Ritmo Masacote is working to deliver its first Salsa/Timba-focused album for its growing fan base around the globe. This third release is scheduled for 2012.

Boston's DIANE BLUE is a strong and soulful vocalist, skillful harmonica player and a crowd pleasing entertainer. Voted "Outstanding Female Singer" in The Blues Audience 2011 Readers Poll, Ms. Blue won the 2010 Massachusetts Blues Challenge, earning the honor of competing at the 2011 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. She was nominated "Best Blues/R&B Act" and "Best Female Vocalist in 2007 by the Providence Phoenix and also nominated "Best Local Blues Act" by Motif Magazine in 2007.

Ms. Diane Blue has played harmonica and/or sung with guitarist extraordinaire, Ronnie Earl, as well as international performers Luther Guitar Jr. Johnson (former sideman for Muddy Waters), Big Jack Johnson (of Clarksdale, Mississippi) and Irma Thomas (the Soul Queen of New Orleans). Marco Pignataro is a multi-talented saxophone player, composer and educator originally from Bologna, Italy. Marco maintains a very active international schedule of concerts, recordings and clinics and he has shared stages with artists such as Eddie Gomez, JoAnne Brakeen Danilo Pérez, Jon Faddis, Ben Street, John Patitucci and George Garzone, amongst many others. Together with Danilo Perez, Marco currently leads the Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI), the premiere jazz center of musical creativity at Berklee College of Music in Boston. His latest CD "Sofia's Heart", was produced by jazz legend Eddie Gomez and recorded with a stellar group including Gomez and Billy Drummond. Marco is also a member of the Eddie Gomez Quintet which just released the acclaimed CD "Per Sempre" for the label BFM Jazz.

The Marco Pignataro Jazzet features jazz piano virtuoso Laszlo Gardony, Matt Marvuglio on flute, Ehud Ettun on bass and Paolo Orlandi on drums. Special guest appearances by Somer O'Brien on accordion and Jorge Perez Albela on percussion.

The sounds of Brazil make up the backbone of Anne Walsh's latest release "Pretty World". The CD received a Grammy nomination for the track "In the Still of the Night". Anne's live shows focus on fun and groovy Brazilian jazz and though "Pretty World" has an organic feel to it, her live shows are even more interactive, improvisational, and fun. Anne's set list features not only Brazilian music by the likes of Ivan Lins, Djavan, and Jobim, but also original lyrics written to the music of Pat Metheney, Steps Ahead, Keith Jarrett, and standards from the Great American Songbook including Cole Porter and George Gershwin. Grammy nominated arranger Tom Zink joins her on piano in a quartet that also includes bass and drums.
