Ritmo Masacote is a 13-piece Salsa/Timba/Latin Jazz Orchestra Powerhouse comprised of some of Berklees most talented students/alums and NY & Bostons finest musicians. This young, charismatic cast produces commanding presentations full of life, spirit, and energy. The orchestra was created with the purpose to bridge the growing divide between the music and dance genres and inspire people to build communities and understanding through this cultural phenomenon.

Ritmo Masacote was founded out of Boston, MA in 2006 by Composer/Pianist Joel Massicot, also known as Masacote. Joel earned the alias Masacote in 1998 as an introduction into his piano solos while playing in Washington, DC. Masacote, Cuban slang, specifically refers to the feeling & rhythm created by combining the basic percussive instruments in Salsa/Mambo (the congas, guiro, timbales, clave, and bongo). More generally, this term refers to the design of merging various elements.

With this design in mind, Joel set about creating an ensemble that would serve to merge various components of music and dance, shaping the perception of Latin Music Today. Often coupled on stage with the company's dancers, Masacote Dance Company, an internationally renowned dance troupe known for its breathtaking performances and visually stunning choreographies, the ensemble is making an impact in cultivating an international appreciation and demand for danceable and captivating band performances.

Ritmo Masacotes reach extends internationally as far as Australia, China, Japan, Singapore, Turkey, Germany, Lithuania, Colombia, Brazil, and across North America, among others. The ensembles music can be found on motion pictures, instructional DVDs, and can be heard on major radio stations and satellite radio both nationally and internationally. Everyone can relate to the orchestras unique compositions and arrangements with focused directions in Timba, Salsa, and Latin jazz grounded in Cuban roots.

With two critically acclaimed Latin Jazz albums to its credit, Ritmo Masacote is working to deliver its first Salsa/Timba-focused album for its growing fan base around the globe. This third release is scheduled for 2012.

A dynamic drummer and dancer in the traditions of West and Central Africa, Cuba and Brazil, Cornell Coley is a powerful performer. Playing a 'hot' kit customized for Latin, African and Brazilian music, he directs "Afrika Gente," a six-member African and Latin ensemble. It features an eclectic mix of seasoned Boston musicians who jive nicely on sax, flute, congas, bass, piano, guitar and drum kit. Their unique arrangements of well-loved hits, plus originals are great for great salsa dancing or pure listening pleasure. You’ll often catch him singing and dancing in the show. In addition to his band, he tours his solo program "A Fascinating Rhythm" throughout New England.

Master percussionist Vicente Lebron has been playing congas, timbales and percussion since he was boy growing up in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. At home he began his career with Rafael Mancevo and such important Dominican musicians as Rafael Solano and many others. For nearly 15 years now, Vicente Lebron has been the prinipal percussionist for the renown Either Orchestra. Vicente began playing gigs with E/O leader Russ Gershon in 1998, and joined the E/O in 1999, creating a spectacular drum tandem with Harvey Wirht.

On August 15th, Lebron plays Ryles Jazz Club bringing his performance alongside some of New England's premier musical talent.

Vicente moved to New York in 1971, playing with such luminaries as Johnny Pacheco, La Lupe, Mongito El Unico (Ramon Tian), Isidro Infante. In 1974 he came to Boston, and was one of founders of the Latino music scene in Boston with Los Bravos de Boston, La Orquestra El Elegua, Livio Rosaria and the Pabon Family. Over the last quarter century, he has also played with Jorge Arce from Puerto Rico, Ibrahima Camara from Senegal, Cadima Jubango from the Congo and as leader of his own groups Sabor Latino and Grupo Panamericano. Vicente has taught Afro-cuban music at Berklee College with Giovanni Hidalgo, and at many schools and colleges in the Boston area.

RICARDO VOGT
Born in Santa Cruz do Sul, Brazil, Vogt grew up surrounded by music. Aside from playing guitar, Vogt is also an accomplished vocalist. Ricardo now tours around the world and has performed at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Madrid Jazz Festival and the Dinant Jazz Festival alongside Toots Thielemans. Vogt is now the guitar player for Esperanza Spalding, featured on The Late Show with David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel Live. CATARINA DOS SANTOS
Catarina Dos Santos is a fusion of the arts. Dos Santos is an arranger, composer, lyricist, guitarist and percussionist. To understand Catarina's style, mix a little bit of jazz and pop with Brazilian music, then sprinkle some Puerto Rican music influence on top of a blend of Portuguese, Cape Verdean and Angolan rhythms. The finishing touch on these sounds is her smooth yet powerful voice - and in the Spring of 2009, she released her debut CD, entitled "No Balanço do Mar" showcasing all of her abilities.

Born in Portugal, Catarina was exposed early on to a diversity of culture, people and music. This area nurtured strong intercultural relationships between the Portuguese, Angolan and Cape Verde cultures. She learned exactly how to express a unique and new sound that incorporates the expression a Portuguese-Afro-Brazilian world of rhythm and melody, but with a contemporary twist on the sound. After dabbling in guitar and ballet lessons, she earned a MA degree in Painting from the University of Fine Arts in Lisbon. But starting in 1997, she began to perform with her first band "Edworld", a fusion of jazz and pop, all original music. This would be just the beginning of her performing career - one that spans multiple continents, venues and genres.

FERNANDO SACI
Graduate of the premier music conservatory "Conservatorio Dramatico e Musical Carlos de Campos" in Sao Paulo, Brazuil, percussionist, composer, producer, director, arranger Fernando Saci regularly plays and records for various well-known artists as well as his own projects and has created and delivered dynamic workshops at community programs targeting "at risk" youth in various cities including Campinas, Sao
Paulo, Chicago and New York.

With a natural talent for all things percussion, as a child, he quickly mastered his craft and soon began teaching various percussive instruments for others at the local community center. After playing professionally for several years, in 2002, Sací was selected to study at one of the most respected musical conservatories in Brasil, Conservatório Dramático e Musical "Carlos de Campos" in Tatuí, São Paulo. At Tatuí, he specialized in jazz and MPB percussion and graduated in 2005 to explore many other genres of music. Over the past 20 years, Sací has participated in innumerable shows and recordings and has shared the stage with some of the most renown musicians in Brazilian music.
