Each year A-NO-NE Ensemble, a Jazz and Brazilian influenced music group formed in the late 80's by virtuoso flutist Hiro Honshuku from Kamakura, Japan brings his audience a delightfully improvisational take on traditional holiday favorites. A-NO-NE Christmas concerts, performed each year in different venues throughout New England, include upbeat selections from their "A-NO-NE Christmas" and "Not That Silent Night" CDs.

About Hiro:

Hiroaki Honshuku is an Alum of both Berklee and the New England Conservatory and has become known for his eclectic use of woodwinds, in particular the EWI (Electric Wind Instrument), a wind instrument invented by Nyle Steiner in 1986 designed to be used with a synthesizer to produce a distinct and haunting sound.

Hiro formed his ensemble A-NO-NE in 1987, composing, arranging and performing his own pan-cultural Jazz, improvisational and Brazilian influenced music throughout greater New England, the United States and abroad. Hiro has played with the likes of George Russell, Mike Stern, Dave Liebman, Mick Goodrick, Dave Weckl, Tiger Okoshi, George Garzone, Maria Schneider, Bob Moses, and Tom McKinley and a great number of fine local Brazilian groups led by Sergio Brandão, José Pienasola, Gustavo Assis-Brasil, Teresa Inês, Anita Coelho, Gilson Schachnik, Alfredo Cardim and João Marcos among others and now divides his time between teaching, composing arranging and performing.

A composer is always heartened to learn he has been an influence in a musician's life; Hiro has taken what he learned from the Lydian Concept and used it as I had intended it to be used to fashion his own unique voice. Dazzling folk-jazz fusion from new acoustic scottish duo

Scottish harpist and singer Maeve Gilchrist, met bassist Aidan O Donnell in New York City in Jan 2008. Both musicians split their time between Scotland and the states, touring Internationally with various folk, jazz and contemporary music projects. Aidan O Donnell first saw Gilchrist play at a club in Brooklyn with up and coming New York Band 'I want to be an Astranout'. After playing a session together in Gilchrist's tiny kitchen they continued to form a dynamic musical partnership that had it's sold-out debut performance at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival in Aug 2008. Scotsman newspaper critic Kenny Matheison wrote, 'both fascinating and absorbing in equal measure, an original voice.' Maeve Gilchrist's traditional Scottish background shines through her songs and innovative chromatic harp playing, which, when paired with O Donnell's melodic bass playing creates a truly rich and unique acoustic voice.

At the heart of Choro music live the forms and harmonies of classical European dance and chamber music, taken to the streets and the playa to run barefoot. To this popular 20th century Brazilian tradition, Choros com Chocolate brings an extra measure of urban grit and a fresh instrumentation.

The members of Choros com Chocolate are distinguished by their versatility; each is proficient in classical music, jazz, and music of various parts of the world. All four musicians teach, tour, compose and lead their own bands. As side-musicians they have covered many continents and stylistic grounds encompassing Cirque du Soleil, Joe Jackson, Lee Konitz and Donna Summer.

La Tuza is a dynamic acoustic trio that performs Mexican roots music. Our repertoire includes pieces from African-influenced son jarocho of southern Veracruz, the swinging son calentano of the Mexican Hotlands, and the fiery son huasteco of central Mexico. The diverse instrumentation of La Tuza includes jarana jarocha, jarana huasteca (both small guitar-like instruments native to Mexico) plus requinto, guitar, violin, cajon, pandero, and the quijada (donkey jawbone!).

Bangalore gradually took shape as a band over the summer of 1999, the outgrowth of a drumming and jam workshop instigated by guitarist PHIL KAPLAN and bassist SVEN LARSON. A decades-long love and study of West African drumming and North Indian raga, married to a solid grounding in American roots musics, was to be mixed, spiced, and simmered to a rich and pungent blend. Bangalore has a solid and ever-expanding repertoire of original songs and uniquely treated covers which their first full-length CD, WANDERLUST is a testament to. Bangalore offers memorable, rhythm-heavy melodies (and hooks!) that are also vehicles and structures for improvisation and interplay, in the great Jazz tradition, albeit with some exotic spicing! Funk, rock, & Miles Davis mesh with the melodies and grooves of South Asia, West Africa , and dumbekistan. Bangalore is noted for its adventurous collaborations with guest masters and exponents of many World music traditions, both in live performance and in recordings.
