The infectious grooves of New Orleans are the backbone of the band with covers of artists such as the Meters and Earl King, with a trombone and sax front line reminiscent of the Crusaders. The mix includes original jazz, funk and blues. Rounding out the band are some of Boston's top-shelf players including Bill Vint on sax, Barry Lit on drums, Jesse Williams on bass, and Steve Heck on keys.

SISSY CASTROGIOVANNI QUARTET

A provocative blend of Sicilian music and Contemporary Jazz
Sissy

Sissy Castrogiovanni - voice & compositions
Enrique Eisenmann - piano
Ehud Ettun - bass
Jorge Perez-Albela - drums

SISSY CASTROGIOVANNI mesmerized audience during the release celebration of her latest album, Intra Lu Munnu, at the world renowned venue Regattabar in Boston.

She has toured Europe and the US, at the Panama Jazz Festival, Jazz en Lima Festival, MIDEM Cannes Music Festival, 4th Annual Middle Eastern Festival, Sounds of Italy Festival, Umbria Jazz, Women Network Festival, among others. Having performed in such venues as Regattabar, Berklee Performance Center, Jordan Hall (Boston), Cotton Club (NYC), European Parliament (Brussels) among others..

With a warm and powerful voice, Sissy has a unique and soulful sound. Jazz harmonies, Mediterranean and Sicilian roots, African rhythms and a touch of classical music, all combined together to support beautiful original melodies in Sicilian dialect.

Sissy's stunning energy comes as much from her home as it does her unique spirit. Born in Sicily (Italy) into a musical family, Sissy was firmly planted between the Mediterranean Sea and Volcano Etna on an island with a long history of foreign domination, from the Greeks to the Romans, from the Arabs to the Spanish, from the African to the Normans. The result is a mixed culture where every single dominion left something to see, to taste, to hear... And all of this shines through Sissy's latest record, Intra Lu Munnu. It means "Inside the World". It's a collection of 10 original Sissy's compositions entirely sung in her Sicilian dialect, with musicians coming from all parts of the world and a special collaboration with the Pletenitsa Balkan Choir.

Sissy's creativity starts flowing at the age of five. She started early on to delve into a wide variety of musical styles, from jazz to blues, to soul and funk, being at the same time exposed to Sicilian traditional folk music. Grown as a self-taught musician, in 2009 Sissy becomes Berklee College of Music scholarship recipient and she specializes in Jazz Composition and Mediterranean Studies. In 2011 she's awarded as full scholarship and invited to join the Mediterranean Music Institute (Valencia, Spain). While living in Spain she lines out the first sketches of her compositions.

During her time at Berklee, Sissy had the opportunity to perform with world renowned artists such as jazz drummer Jack DeJohnette - 10 times Grammy Award winning, Bobby McFerrin producer/composer Patrice Rushen 7 times Latin Grammy Award winning, Javier Limon.

Compaq Big Band

Compaq Big Band
The exciting, high-energy 20-piece Compaq Big Band returns to one of their favorite venues for a very special evening featuring two phenomenal jazz singers. The band showcases the power of 14 horns, a cookin' rhythm section, terrific instrumental soloists, and - for June 30th only - rising New England star Rebecca Hall AND the great Ed Scheer from Boston's "The Love Dogs". Formed in 1975, the Compaq Big Band is one of the longest continuously operating full-size big bands in New England. They perform over three dozen times a year, for a diverse range of clients and events across region. Their two CDs, "Bandwidth" and "Hard Drive", have met with rave reviews, and are played on New England jazz radio stations, on BBC2 in the United Kingdom, and on jazz radio shows in Sweden.

Rebecca Hall is a talented young singer from Amherst, New Hampshire. Although she's new to the big band jazz scene, she's already leaving her mark as confident, polished, expressive, and sassy. Becca will be debuting with the band that night on charts popularized by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Diane Schuur, Natalie Cole, Joanie Somers, Tierney Sutton, and more.

Ed Scheer has been the 'lead dog' of Boston's "The Love Dogs" for over two decades a consummate performer of blues, jump swing, New Orleans R&B, and old style rock and roll that impresses all the more as a 'pro's pro' out in front of a full big band. He'll be performing hits from Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Michael Buble, Louie Jordan, and others.

Along with all those vocals will be instrumental selections from the books of Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band and the bands of Buddy Rich, Bill Holman, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, John Clayton, Count Basie and others.
